Our children love the new outdoor environment, especially the fruit trees in the yard. The apple tree is currently full of green apples and each day there are lots of apples dropping on the ground. These apples are presents from mother earth and our children love to eat them. They are sweet, sour and juicy too.
Our children regularly collect apples from the ground. They then wash them, eat them straightaway or peel and cut them into pieces to share with peers. Our children also collect the rotten apples and put them into the compost for gardening.
The apple tree is a present from mother earth and our children treasure the tree by looking after the tree, harvesting, and then composting to return to mother earth. What a valuable learning experience our children have! They learn how to look after the environment and value the food too. Next we will continue our apple harvesting until autumn.
All our whanau and extended families are welcome to share your ideas of apple recipes. Our next goal is to cook with apples! And please don’t hesitate to give us your recipes for figs or grapefruit too. It won’t be long before our children will be harvesting them too!
